World Digestive Health Day 2023

The aim of World Digestive Health Day (WDHD) 2023 is to help people understand the importance of their Gastro Intestinal (GI) tract and promoting ways to keep it healthy, with a focus on lifelong healthy eating. WDHD is run by the World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO), which focuses on the benefits of a healthy gut for life and although optimal dietary management of the GI tract starts in infancy, an objective of WGO is that it is never too late to start.

2023 Campaign

  • On World Digestive Health Day, the WGO is seeking to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy GI tract with simple information ab about the normal function of the GI tract, including:
  • Digestion and absorption: How food breaks down food so that nutrients and fluids can provide energy for the body
  • Immune defence: 70-80% of the body’s immune system is in the gut
  • The gut-brain axis: The gut is called the “second brain,” and its interactions with the nervous system are important
